Spotted an oil stain on my drive way, thought the engine oil might be leaking but when I checked under the car it's from transfer case, took it out to the dealership. Dealer quoted 6k to replace transfer case. car has 92k miles on it bought it new. Any one has similar experiences and any work arounds rather than spending 6k.

Get a CarFax or take the VIN and head to an Infiniti dealer to pull the history (should be free). That'll tell you if/what major has been repaired, and what to expect.
So, from what I have read, no one has ever replaced the transfer case oil as it is not mentioned in the manual (it only says "inspect the oil"). Most brands recommend changing the oil at 30-50K miles. Why wouldn't Infiniti/Nissan do the same? I have 2014 QX60 with 52K miles, want to replace the oil, but afraid dealer would not use right oil type or smth else will go wrong after that, as i have heared few owners experiencing problems after transfer case oil change. Any recommendations?:/
Unfortunately, there are a ton of things that aren't listed, including timing chain, fuel filters, etc... I'm assuming Infiniti doesn't think their vehicles will last. I specifically recall the dealer telling me CVT fluid was "lifetime". Shortly after QX60 CVT's started failing left and right.
Changing transfer case fluid isn't hard and Nexus Auto on YouTube has a great video. I did mine about 15K ago. Otherwise, pay the dealership, it shouldn't be too expensive

Is there a current class action? I have a qx60 2015 with 97k miles with a bad transfer case. Dealership wants 7k. I have no car now. What a huge disappointment this is and a major stress factor.
Unfortunately no, there isn't a transfer case class action lawsuit. There is one covering the CVT's.
For reference, how often was the transfer case fluid changed? Infiniti doesn't have a recommended frequency in the maintenance guide, so it's very confusing.

No I don’t believe the transfer case fluid was ever changed. I was very timely with oil changes but I didn’t know that I was supposed to change that fluid out. Maybe had I took it to a dealership to get serviced they would have changed the fluid but I just took it to my local mechanic for oil changes. Sucks so bad. I just don’t want to spend the 7k to get this fixed as it is a 2015. But it has low mileage.

I had a similar transfer case issue with my 2013 JX35 (roughly 100k mi)
It happened twice, the first time, the mechanic out in a used transfer case and replaced its seal.
Two years later, the transfer case was leaking fluid again. A different mechanic identified that the it wasn't the seals, but the bearings had failed , causing leaks. They will be rebuilding the transfer case with new components vs putting in a used unit.
Sharing as FYI for anyone that stumbles across this thread while googling to understand their issue.

I guess it's a common failure point. I would suggest looking into rebuilding the transfer case vs replacing it.

So question for everyone here. My 2016 with 110k miles had the transfer case fail. We replaced it with a used one from the wrecker. I took it home and parked it on my drive way, and the thing had leaked out a ton of fluid! Took it back, they replaced the seals, still did the same thing. They’ve now put in 4 sets of seals AND a second transfer case and it’s still leaking like a sieve. Any ideas what is going on?
The mechanic is the expert and should be telling you the issue rather than leaving it to you. Otherwise, you should complain to the owner and get this issue escalated. It's unacceptable that you have to return for uncompleted work.
I have a 2014 and a 2019 qx60 both need tranmission little over 100k they need to recall all of them or stop making them they should no longer make these vehicles. NO ONE HAS MONEY TO WASTE. NOW I HAVE TWO OF THEM. THEY SHOULD BE MADE TO BUY ALL OF THEM BACK. BECAUSE THEY KNOW THE PROBLEMS.

I just had to have my 2019 QX-60 assembly case replaced. 5k. I'm still in shock. I'm sure my credit card company is loving it. This sounds like it should be a recall issue with Infiniti. My Infiniti drives nice but I am disappointed with issues they keep telling me I need to fix, usually in the thousands of dollars. Someone told me I was buying an excellent car and that I would never have any problems! Wrong!. AND I AGREE WITH YOU MURRAY. My inexpensive little Mitsubishi was a much better car than this one.
Hi JuneBag - Looks like you had this repair a little over a year ago. How has it held up? I'm being told the exact same thing on my 2015 QX60, taking it to a mechanic for a 2nd opinion. Was hoping to get another year or 2 out my car. But a $6K repair on a car that is likely only worth $10K is making me think twice.
joining the thread. My 2014 QX60 (122K miles) makes a louder than usual "whining" noise when accelerating (sounds like a manual shift that s running in a too low gear and needs to shift up). It drives smooth, just feels heavy and louder than usual. It s been going on for a couple of months, took it to 2 mechanics, no one seemed to find an issue. Got diagnostics done by Infinity yesterday ($240): they pulled out the transfer case plug and found burnt sludge, metal shavings and no fluid. There is no explanation why this happened. Possibly a leak, but I never found fluid. Recommendation is to replace the transfer case ($7K). It does not make sense to me to keep putting money in this car and think I should just trade it in and cut my losses (I already replaced shocks, struts, oil cover gaskets, front and side engine mount, catalytic converter, radiator, etc...). I've taken really good care of this car and did all the maintenance and replacements to date. I loved my QX60 but am super disappointed it did not hold up better and has such a low residual value at the end. I thought it would have lasted me much longer with less issues.
Update: I'm currently at a local shop with a mechanic I trust. He flushed the transfer case as good as he could and filled up the fluid. I ll keep an eye on the fluid but will be looking for a new ride soon.

My dealer never recommended transfer case fluid changes, it was something I had to specifically ask for. It's listed as Schedule 1 "inspect" for leaks every 15k in the maintenance manual which is strange since it needs to be changed periodically. "Premium" service recommends change every 30k.
If you found burnt sludge, it sounds like there was a leak (maybe the drain plug was lose) or it was never changed (and it burned up)
