Spotted an oil stain on my drive way, thought the engine oil might be leaking but when I checked under the car it's from transfer case, took it out to the dealership. Dealer quoted 6k to replace transfer case. car has 92k miles on it bought it new. Any one has similar experiences and any work arounds rather than spending 6k.

Ouch, mine happened at about 130K miles but I had an extended warranty, originally dealer told me that they need to replace the seal , then that it had to be replaced and they don't do seal replacements, but when they were told it would be under an extended warranty then they said it was ok to just replace the seal.Go figure, they had originally quoted me $1,500 to replace the seal and $4K to replace the unit

What did you end up doing?

I also had the same problem with my 2015 QX60, 100,500, with the transfer case leaking. $3,400 for a full rebuild... I guess. My wife drives it like a race car, some of that **** was fused on there. I thought the Aspen auto Care in Centennial CO did fine job. 36k Warranty

Why not just keep refilling the transfer case fluid. $3,400 is a lot of money for a vehicle that's worth $10k.

Or was it dripping a ton of fluid?

I should have thought of that! The oil stains were bothering my wife!
Why they needed to replace the $ 476.73 bracket is beyond me, it should be removed and replaced as part of the work, nobody would need to have this replaced unless there was damage from a crash. Dealer went full stealership.

Agree, a leaking TC should address the seals or point of leak, not replace every part. Strange...
We just had our transfer case and transmission completely rebuilt on our 2014 with 80k miles on it. The repairman said he’s seen this issue with a lot of Infiniti/Nissans.

Just curious, did the dealership or a local mechanic replace the tranny? Also, did he speculate why the transfer case failed?

Wow. I had the same issue on my 2014 QX60. I didn’t realize that it was common. Transfer case leaked which led to the transmission failing. $5K to replace. Now I have to address the electronic coupler/rear differential issue $3K, apparently also common, before it damages my new transmission.

You must be at Crest Infiniti in Frisco! Quoting me the exact same work today on 2015 qx60 with 105k!

Junebag, did Crest give you an idea why the Transfer Case failed?

On a side note, Transfer Case fluid change isn't listed in the maintenance manual, so I'm sure Infiniti's starting to see more and more failures.
No they didn't- based on my research, it's due to defective products. Correct - who replaces transfer case fluid? It's not like flushing the tyranny. Others had theirs go bad at 80k, replaced it, only to have it fail again. They did indicate a leak which suggests a seal.
