Both of those deals are amazing. I doubt I'd have sold you the car for that cheap.

And how is it that my profession has so thoroughly soured everyone on us, that people are proud they kept us from dinner with our families so they could feel good about saving a couple hundred dollars? I know I signed up for all the parts of the job. But knowing that some people purposely come in 1/2 hour before closing, then keep us at work haggling for 2 hours with their moochy, whiny butt until we cave over the last $xx.xx dollars just so we can go home - pisses me off. When you get curt, insufficient delivery and explanation of features, functions, etc., you'll know why. Yes, I know I sound bitter. But sometimes customers deserve much, much worse treatment than I'm capable of providing.

You can try the tactic of coming in at the last minute. But if you try it with me and I find out you did it intentionally, I'm not going to be the least bit amused. I want to earn your business with the best possible service. You don't get the best version of me when I'm walking you through all the amazing features of your car at 9:30pm (my dealership closes at 7).

Yes, I agree I got an unbelievable deal…and to be clear, I did not use the shake down tactics you described—that is a novice tactic. No one likes to be treated with disrespect, it is counterproductive.

I purchased my vehicle on Feb 22, and I arrived at 4:30 PM. The dealership was open until 9:00 PM. Why not earlier? Because I spent 2-3 PM at a Toyota dealership being underwhelmed by a 2014 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Platinum edition—the vehicle I thought I wanted.

Fortunately, I’ve learned to listen to my wife, and she liked the QX60 and wanted to see one in person. I will spare you the details, but I test drove the QX60 and then negotiated this deal by 6:30PM—needless to say, I liked the QX60 a lot better than the Highlander. The fleet manager who sold me my Infiniti, Michael Stafford at AutoNation Infiniti South Bay, was a class act and I actually enjoyed doing business with him. He was extremely professional, friendly and a straight shooter, an all-around good guy making an honest living. Furthermore, Michael was able to make the poker game at 9:30 PM that night with “the guys”—he was able to get a rare “kitchen pass” from his wife so I made sure he got to use it.

AutoNation sold my trade, a loaded 2010 Buick Enclave with only 37K miles, the following weekend at their Valencia Chevrolet dealership as a CPO vehicle for $29,000. It was on their lot for 2 days.

Bottom-line, AutoNation made money and I’m an extremely satisfied customer—it was a win-win situation for all parties. Consequently, I give this dealership, and Michael, my highest recommendation to anyone in the market for a new Infiniti. I’ve also been very pleased with the 1 experience I’ve had with their service department. They will be my first stop the next time I’m in the market for a new car—and I’m already eyeing the Q50S Hybrid.

I came into the dealership on a Sunday about 1.5 hrs before closing, but did not use any of the "shake down" tactics previously described. I bought on a day that I didn't plan for. In fact, my salesperson kept on calling me and negotiating with me via phone while I was at home. He wanted the sale badly and was flexible to doing it over the phone... And when we came to an agreement, I decide to go in (otherwise, I hate negotiating, especially in person). I would've gotten there sooner, but there was a random blizzard that afternoon causing traffic delays. I got to the dealer to select the car I wanted (they had a couple of the same configs in different colors) and go through the paperwork. Now, there was a delay in getting to the paperwork part, since the finance guy was already working with somebody else. Eventually, we left about 45 minutes after closing.. but that was because it took the dealer some time to pull all the wrapping off/inside the car, get gas, and double check everything before turning the car over to us. I even apologized for keeping our salesperson late.. but he insisted that it was no problem, especially since I bought from him. He never seemed bothered and time-appropriately asked if there was anything else he could do for us... he made our experience that much better.

So, I can understand the bitterness if one stayed late and didn't get the sale... but if one stayed late because of the sale (even if late in the day)... then I'd say he/she is lucky and deserving (i.e., working hard for the money) at the same time. But if one is complaining of staying late even with the sale, then he/she should've stopped the process earlier and/or find a different job. Like previously said, you accept it or move on.

My Pricing

Just got a 2014 QX60 2WD Diamond Slate/Graphite w/ Premium Package and accessories of Roof Rails, Rear Bumper Protector, Roof Rail Crossbars, and Illuminated Kick Plates

MSRP incl destination = $45,855
Negotiated Price = $39,418

Ended up taking the $750 bonus for financing through IFS, so made it $38,668 before TTL

Gave me a 3.39% rate....not sure if that is good or not. I don't plan to keep the loan for long, just wanted the $750 incentive cash.

I've been wondering what's the sales numbers for 2wd versions versus 4wd versions. Do you have that information Sinecure?

I don't know overall sales numbers. At my dealership, where it hasn't ever snowed, we sell probably 98% AWD. We don't order a single one in FWD. The only people who call asking for FWD are the customers who want the absolute cheapest car/deal they can possibly find. And they're willing to haggle for 2 hours and then drive 1/2 hour and do it all over again to save $150 (seriously). Not the customers I really want / care to deal with. The only dealerships around here who stock FWD QX60's are the ones who advertise bait-and-switch numbers on Truecar. Again, not the crowd I care to be associated with.

My Pricing

On Monday, I purchased a White/Wheat QX60 AWD with roof rails, cross bars, splash guards, bumper protector, illuminated kick plates, premium package, and premium plus package for $44,860 (sticker $50, 745). Then added the tow package for $1,095 parts and labor (lost steam and did no negotiating here). I'm planning to order the WeatherTech digitalfit mats, and hoping that between that and the fact that my kids are older now, the wheat will hold up okay over time.

Most of my pre-purchase research was on the Acura MDX. I thought we'd be buying it based on its frequent appearance on favorites lists, but, when it came down to it, the whole family preferred the QX90. The interior felt more spacious and luxurious and the third row seats are MUCH more comfortable, recline, and have a/c vents, unlike the MDX. I'm happy to have found this site, though I wish I'd come across it before my purchase.

I've never owned an Infiniti before, any advice to a new owner is welcome.

Thanks!

Prem

Illum Kick Plates

Was the 45,449 after or before taxes?? Im trying to get an idea of what price to negotiate from??

My deal was similar to Paradox's. I too chose to purchase, I did not lease.

2014 QX60 Hybrid AWD
Exterior Color: Moonlight White
Interior Color: Java with Maple Accents
Mileage: 13

Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Base Price: $45,950.00
Factory Options:

  • Rear Bumper Protector: $205.00
  • Theater Package: $1,700
  • Deluxe Technology Package: $6,050.00
  • Hybrid Premium Package: $4,600
  • Destination Charges: $995.00
Total MSPR: $59,500.00

The negotiated vehicle sale price was $51,532.00

  • Doc Processing Charge: $80.00
  • Taxable Sale Price (A+B): $51,612.00

I had to pay CA sales tax on $51,612.00. I also had to pay the following CA fees, which were not included in the taxable sale price:

  • CA Vehicle License Fee: $335.00
  • CA Registration/Transfer/Titling Fees: $81.00
  • CA Tire Fee: $8.75
  • Smog Abatement Fee: $20.00
Grand total before cash down/trade equity: $56,257.08

I negotiated $23,500 for my trade.

I purchased splash guards and all weather floor mats separately (not part of deal above). I plan on keeping this vehicle until it is paid for, so I also purchased an extended bumper to bumper warranty separately through USAA (can use Infiniti dealerships for repairs, $0 deductible, covered for 72 months or 100,000 miles, and it includes a rental car. If the vehicle breaks down on a road trip, it includes hotel, meals and a rental car). This extended warranty picks up when the factory warranty expires, it cost me $1,300.

Bottom line for me, best deal I’ve ever negotiated, took away from the pain of having to pay LA county sales tax (9%). My take away – purchase a vehicle on Saturday evening, towards the end of the month, when the sales manager is trying to meet his weekly/monthly quota!
Cheers and good luck!

How did you get so much off?? Did you start that low and negotiate total sales price, or did you haggle about payment price?? Thank you for sharing the info, looking to buy one this month.

Sorry I didn’t respond to your question earlier, I’ve been very busy the past few days.

The short answer is dealer competition and timing.

The long answer is the following:
I’m a member of USAA, and use their car buying service price as a negotiation starting point. USAA uses the True Car pricing. I had previously been in email contact Michael at Southbay Infiniti in Torrance, CA – he is their fleet sales manager who deals with USAA. Michael was a good guy and was smart; he had us take a test drive in a fully loaded moonlight white QX60 AWD Hybrid with the Java interior--the wife and kids loved it. After the test drive, he asked me what was a fair price for the vehicle; and he showed me their invoice. I then showed him the lowest True car price for the area, had my laptop with me, and gave him the dealership name and POC. I told him flat out that unless he can give me a ton of money for my trade, I wasn’t going to be able to afford it even at the lowest USAA price. He said let me talk to the dealership manager, we will beat it. They did, right out of box they quoted me $52,112, which was more than $2000 below the lowest USAA price. However, they were only going to give me $23,000 for my trade, which was basically the wholesale price. I had preapproved financing through USAA, but to get the payment I was targeting required another $1000 off. Frankly, they surprised me by getting to within $1000 of what I budgeted for.

At this point I leveled with Michael, I told him I did my homework and I recognized they were offering me an unbelievable price on a fully loaded vehicle. However, it was getting late, and I had the wife and kids with me and they were getting restless, so I asked if he would honor that price in the morning after I re-ran the numbers. Michael asked me to wait just a second and went and went and got the dealership manager. The Manager said I’m going to be honest with you too, it’s Saturday night and if we make this sale we make our sales quota for the week. What would it take to get you to sign tonight? I told him I need another $1000 dollars off and I'll sign. He asked if I would be willing to use Infiniti financing if they match the USAA terms, (they get a kickback), and they knock another $500 off the sales price, and give me another $500 for my trade, to make up the $1000? I quickly said yes, and we shook hands. Best and easiest deal I’ve ever negotiated.

I am newbie to this forum and need advise from experts in here...

I brought new 2014 QX60 AWD yesterday with following options for $49,000 on road including tax, title and tag. It's actually drive off price. I am thinking I over paid after reading all the above threads. I just brought it based on true car pricing and didn't know true car is not true :) do any of you think as well I am overpaid? Do I have any option to cancel purchase with dealer?

Unless the contract you signed has a buyers remorse clause, you've got a legal document that says you own it. That said, it sounds like you got a pretty good deal. The true car price represents is a good price to pay for your area. In all honesty, luck had a lot to do with the deal I got. My timing was right, and there are a lot of Infiniti dealers in the greater Los Angeles area, so competition is there. I was also dealing with the dealer who really wanted to sell me the car, and was willing to negotiate. That's not always the case.

2014 QX60 Purchase

Here's the details of my QX60 purchase this past weekend (San Jose, CA area):

2014 QX60 Hybrid FWD

Hybrid Premium package (Prem+Prem Plus in non-hybrid)
Roof rails
Cross bar roof rails
Splash guards
Rear bumper protector
Illuminated kickplates

$45982

I could have gotten it a little cheaper from a different dealership but put in a lot of leg work with this dealer and they had the car on their lot so I could drive away. Also got all weather floor mats and a cargo mat included.

Pretty competitive pricing from most dealers I called/worked with.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. Enjoy your ride and take advantage of the complementary Personal Assistant if you have the Infiniti Connection.

I do not know how you are all doing this, but we are looking at a fully equipped QX60 at about $60,000 and our dealer has 52 QX60's in stock. He is making a big deal about giving us $1,400 off MSRP! What are we doing wrong?

Go to truecar.com and enter the data, which includes where you are looking. I can see some regional variations, but I suspect they just think you will pay that for some reason. Having this research on hand will help a lot. You can also get a price from that site, maybe even from the same dealer, and be done in about ten minutes. I did this to get about 7k off sticker a few months ago.

Good luck.

Thank you. I will try and let you know what happens. Not sure how much private info truecar wants.

Truecar said there are no truecar dealers in my area but did qive a price they thought was a good deal and a great deal. The price the dealer is giving us is higher than truecar shows for my area!

This happened to me. I let them work the deal, which was a lot more than true car said I should pay. When I pulled out my paperwork, showing what the true car value said I should pay, they adjusted the price. Same thing with my trade, I showed them my paperwork from four sites as to what my trade should bring, and also what another dealer was going to give me, and again they adjusted the price. It pays to do your homework. My payment dropped $80 a month, just because I came prepared.
