Hi, i have 2016 Qx60 with almost 85K miles and as i came to service my car at my local Infiniti dealer they found out that my both front lower control arms needs to be replaced and gave me a quate of $2200 and saying that it’s a critical and needs to be replaced immediately. i asked my service advisor if i can drive it for some more time as i m not ready to spend that much now, so my advisor called some service specialist who explained the issue and warned me that if it gets worse the wheels may come off which scared the **** out of me.

My question is is it really that scary, has anyone had this issue and how you took care of it? does this issue comes under wear and tear or something might happened to my car? i bought used certified from the Infiniti dealer.
can i get this done somewhere else cheaper other than Infiniti dealer?

You certainly can get the repair done at other than a dealer
1st did they give you an accurate estimate showing parts and part #’s? If so research the part #’s for a price comparison. eBay will let let you search by part as well as part # see how that compares.
2nd do you have a mechanic or shop you use for oil/filter changes, start there see if they do these type of repairs, failing that sometimes good volume tire stores will also do these repairs.
good luck

I asked him to give me specifics but he just went through the list like this much for parts and this much for labor which i dont remember. i did googled the parts which are around $250 something but looks like the most of the expence from the delar quote is labor. i go to firestone for oil change for my other car (nissan Altima) which i m happy with them lately. i will check other shops like goodyear and firestone.

Thanks for your input

Complete BS, your wheels WILL NOT FALL OFF. As the bushings around the control arms wear out you'll see more slop/play in the suspension.

Feel free to take a pic of your control arms bushing, we can help weigh in. The dealer said mine need to be replaced (160k), but it's not critical.

See below for a pic of the control arm location.

Also, check this thread, it talks about another user with the same question

My dealer quoted $1.7k to replace since mine are worn. As Kbdixon referenced, you can get non-OEM MUCH cheaper and installed by most local shops (non dealers).

Thanks for your input. Dealer said its critical and needs to be replaced immediately. i don’t feel any drifting as of now, the only thing i feel is tightness at the wheel and while turning little bit of unevenness.

Get a 2nd opinion. Unless you’re taking yours airborne on a daily basis, I doubt they’re shot. 1st thing I would do is look at the tires and run your hand around the tread to see if there’s any unusual wear. If they seem ok, I wouldn’t think it’s critical.

As far as which brand to buy, my first choice for aftermarket would be Suspensia, but I can’t seem to find anybody who has the left side in stock. Not even Rock Auto. I wouldn’t choose MOOG because their only choice is from their RK series which is their cheap made-in-China series. Maybe someone has a deal on OEM replacements on eBay.

Also, this is a fairly easy DIY job. There’s only 3 bolts on each side. I did a whole front suspension overhaul on ours at 130,000 miles. I was lucky enough to part out a 2019 with 7,000 miles. I got both strut assemblies and lower control arms. I also did both tie rods, inner and outer, along with new sway bar links. Totally transformed the driving experience. It feels like a brand new car.

so, i took to Moody tire and auto i guess it’s a local auto company here in Nashville Tn for wheel alignment and asked them to check if my shock suspensions/control arms are okay (I did not tell them what the dealer said) that he said if we see anything wrong then they won’t even do the alignment, the same was said by the dealer too. so i waited with expections that they will come back and say that my shocks or control arms are not good but surprisingly they did the alignment. I even went talked to the mechanic and asked if everything okay to which he said ya alignment was bit off so did alignment other than that i don’t see any problems. i asked about the control arms, he said i don’t see anything wrong. I’m happy but confused if the dealer is wrong or this other shop, i mean dealer scared me that its not even safe to drive where as on the othe hand there is nothing wrong at all.

Well sounds like you need to find a new garage! It's a car lableled Infiniti, same as a Nissan. Same mechanical parts different features and level of comfort. What I did was some homework, I found a local family run garage that's been in business for over 50 years, has manufacture (certified) mechanics and most have been working there for over 10 to 20 years so they must treat and pay their employees well. I asked around and got some recommendations and did reviews. Now they are not the cheapest in town, less that the dealership but more than the new kids on the block but worth it or the tire shops that hire high school summer help. I have found them to be very honest and have not pushed any repairs on me, just notified me of things going on and to keep an eye on it. I have been very happy and never looked back. But of c ourse if you have warranty work it's a visit to the stealership. Good luck. P.S. your wheels won't fall off from this issue.

I’ll lend my results here as well, I have owned my ‘17 since March 2018. I have 212,576 miles on it today, I have never replaced or repaired any suspension parts at all thru today. Copy of my last suggested service items no mention of suspension at all. Just mileage appropriate items.

KBDixon, do you typically have the shop do these repairs or are you a DIY person? Just curious since some of these are reasonable (brake fluid flush) while others seem very expensive (e.g. performance plus fuel system additive).

If you're getting this stuff done (or doing it yourself),add transfer case fluid to your list. Best to keep it fresh.

My now retired past Mercedes mechanic would walk underneath the car with me with a flat blade screwdriver and poke and prod the bushings and other rubber stuff to see if it needed addressing. Things like exhaust hangers are sometimes way out of the way but will cause an annoying squeak as well as excess wear on the system if gone bad. From your pictures, I’m sorry my powers of observation aren’t better, but I don’t see any real issues. As stated before you will not lose a wheel by driving it, you did yourself a big service by seeking an independent opinion. It’s unfortunate that in order to address the bushing you have to replace the whole arm, but that is how the manufacturer keeps costs down. So two different opinions and on one of them you specifically asked them to check the issue, I would follow the second opinions advice And I would also favor them with my oil change business if they do them. Reasoning is that they do alignments for a key part of their $ that means they look at a lot of front ends, if they are changing your oil they will usually look around if prompted.
all that said I am not a mechanic just a guy with some miles on me, it would be very hard to diagnose a bushing from a photo unless it was shredded, yours aren’t.
