I am new to this forum because we are looking to trade in our minivan for luxury crossover and the QX60 is on the top of our list because of it's size, styling, and its safety and luxury features. However, after reading many posts on this forum, the reliability of the transmission has me really concerned. I've never taken our 6 year old minivan in for any service other than its routine maintenance and I don't want to spend $50k+ on a new car that is constantly needing repairs. Since the transmission issues were well known in the 2014 QX60's, has the issue been corrected for the 2015 models? Consumer reports gave the QX60 the worst reliability rating. Is this really true?

The only major issue I've seen is the shuddering on the 2014. Likewise, the Nissan Pathfinder has had the same problem. To my knowledge, there hasn't been any other major issues, and certainly nothing other than a few complaints early on about dash rattles.

We have two top sales persons from very reputable dealerships on this forum (Washington and California) that might be able to answer your question.

They changed some of the technology in the 2015 models (D step is what it is called). There is a different way that the transmission operates under certain throttle positioning (http://lms.nnanet.com/VA3/Pages/Art...0/2014/09/IST/QX60s-Next-Step-0914I&ext=.html).

As @Sinecure has said on the forum before, the late model 2014's will have this already because the technology was released a few months ago, meaning that had been previously working on it. I do not have a lot of clients that are having the shudder issue, but it does exist and I do have a few. It however will be under full warranty if it does, and if you find the right sales consultant and don't just shop around for best price, you should have no problems getting a loaner and getting it done quickly if it happens.

As for reviews, you want to be careful because there is always going to be biased opinions. Best thing to do would be to go drive the vehicles you are interested in. There are a bunch of 2013 JX35's starting to show up, as well as 2014's dealerships need to get off of the lot. A 2015 will not be able to get nearly as aggressive on, so keep that in mind as well. Hope this helps, and feel free to ask any more questions.

The 2015 does feel slightly different when driving. I don't think there are any real parts changes to the transmission, just reprogramming of the way it works. As Matt said, I've seen very few problems with 2014 trannies. And in the last 6 months, very few on 2013 JX's that are out there.

I have a 2015 QX60 with the transmission issue

Purchased the QX60 - 2015 model in January (car was manufactured in November 2014 as 2015 model) I have the shuttering transmission issue. Took it to the dealer and they did a software update, that did nothing, problem still exists. Dealer says the replaced over 100 transmission on QX60 in the last month alone. I'm still fighting with the dealer to get a new transmission, they keep pushing me off, not able to get a loaner and can't get Infiniti to authorize the repair.
I'm in NYC

Long story short, don't purchase the car, don't lease it, don't even look at it. Get an MDX or Q7 or any other car, this is just a terrible experience specially since this problem has been going on for years with Nissan Pathfinders (same base and hardware as QX60) and Infiniti still did not really solve the problem

I owned a 2013 Pathfinder - had the shudder. Sold it...bought a 2014 QX60 - built May 2014 - had the shudder. Infiniti dealer replaced entire transmission - 10,000 miles later, no problem. The other day, parked next to another QX60 and chatted with the owner - had the shudder. You draw your own conclusions...

sound like your dealership is the problem. 100 transmission in one month. it is BS. they just don't want to do the job because they don't get paid full time. only warranty time which is less. i have a 2014 QX60 with no issue.

I own Infiniti QX60 2014 which will be soon surrendered back to the manufacturer. Even with transmission replacement the problem wasn't fixed. The whole car shakes on a low speed ( on slight uphill). After 5 visits and opening a case with New vehicle board of CA, Nissan contacted me with repurchasing letter. Not to mention the roof rack seals were replaced every three months due to drying and hanging from the side of the windows ( LOL this is a brand new car). Oh forgot to add one more problem. My car was at the dealer for detail some genius used a chemical on the front windshield and damaged the film or screen which is found inside the galss so had to replace that also. I am done with infiniti I am returning and will never look back to lease or buy any Infiniti. It's a done deal. Piece of JUNK.

My QX60 (Leased in Oct 2014) has the same issue"The whole car shakes at a low speed ( on slight uphill)". In one instance the engine died on the Hyw. The dealer had my car for nearly 2 months and still could not fix the probelm. Don't know how to deal with this problem.

2014 QX60 with 20k miles... I thought I was lucky to not be a victim of the shudder (usually the shudder happens within the first few thousand miles) but the day finally came.... around 30 mph is when I get the shudder. but it is only happening sporadically, about once or twice a day...

so if i take it in to the dealer now, the shudder most likely won't be reproduced.

I also noticed that it happens more when I have the drive style to ECON instead of NORMAL or SPORT. seems like it chokes on trying to find the right gear at around 30mph....

on my next oil change, i'll ask the dealer about a software update, and hopefully it solves the issue.

What you describe does not sound like the shudder issue, too me. Once or twice a day is reproducible, I think. The shudder is much less often, from what I've heard, and not at 30 mph but at low speeds during acceleration.

So while you may have an issue, I don't think it's shudder (so you are still good on that) :)

bringing it in tomorrow morning to have it looked at....
the shudder is starting to happen more frequently now.. on a 5 mile drive, it happened 5 times....

the passenger seat airbag sensor has been defective since day one, I'll ask them to take a look at that as well...

took the QX60 in this morning...

they hooked it up to a computer and let it run for about 30 minutes while monitoring the engine/transmission behavior... after the test, the computer says "replace transmission"....

service rep was very professional and wasted no time in ordering the new transmission which will arrive tomorrow...

got me a loaner QX60 to drive around, no shudder and feels alot more powerful than my 2014.... (assuming the loaner is a 2015, it has 7k miles on it)

hopefully the new tranny will do the trick... i'm planning on keeping this QX60 for many years on the road!

I had this shudder issue (I wrote about it somewhere on this forum, sorry... don't know where at the moment)... it wasn't severe most times, but the dealer was able to replicate it on the 2nd time I brought it in... Jim Coleman Infiniti (Bethesda) were very professional... they quickly applied a software update only (no transmission change) and I haven't experienced the issue at all in 2 months and the drive has been great!

Hi all -

This is a duplicate of what I've posted here: http://www.infinitiqx60.org/forum/qx60-issues-problems/79873-some-help-cvt-issue-2.html I'm not sure who or how the board is monitored so I've doubled up to get the broadest response possible. I hope that's ok.

We're down to the QX60 as one of two finalist options for our next vehicle. It's very difficult from the boards to understand the transmission issue because we only hear from those who have problems, with an occasional "I don't have any problems here!" thrown in.

Has anyone been able to determine precisely what percentage of cars experience either the Torque Converter or CVT problem? When Infiniti fixes it, do you get a loaner car?

How many of you would purchase this car again?

Thank you
Dave

I have bought mine 2 days back and I am loving it.. So far I have driven only for 250 miles but I really like it from style to performance. It's too early but I will keep updating my experience if that helps someone on their decision.

2015 QX60 AWD with Premium, Premium Plus and Driver Assist package.
