Supported USB drives for qx60?

38592 Views 20 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Gurjeet Gill
Hi, Does anyone has list of supported USB drives for qx60? I have Samsung Galaxy s3 it can't recongnize when I connect through USB (I can able to connect it through bluetooth). I tried connecting external hd(wd) it can't read any content (it just says check USB port). Service rep said I need to connect only iPhone or iPod to read content through USB, is that correct?

Please advise
Thanks in advance

No that's not correct. I've connected a portable hard drive to it and it saw the file structure and was able to play the contents. So maybe it depends on the file system that you're using in your external HD maybe.
Thanks for the reply Thorni78, I just have all folders copied over to WD external HD (Its NTFS file system). I just have music and pictures only so far, yet to copy movies
It does supports NTFS right?

Please advise

Thanks,

Thanks Rooster for detailed list, don't know why I didn't think of checking owner's manual before shooting this post

Thanks onceagain

@newtoqx60 hopefully you've found what you needed to in the owners manual
Hi, Its looks like it only supports USB memory: FAT16, FAT32. I need to buy one of this and try out.. its strange that we have this kind of limitations. or they can just update the software to support all versions of file systems
I will update you after testing this out.. but not sure how some of our members connected external HD without any problems

Thanks.
just an update...
Yesterday bought a USB flash drive and copied music, it recognized immediately and played the music
Thanks
i tested NTFS and it didn't work. other than that i formatted my USB drive from 2006 on FAT32 mode and read perfectly fine !!!

Awesome! Glad to hear you were able to find a solution to finally play your music.

Plus this should help other people with the same problem that are viewing this.
I'm really disappointed with the USB connectivity on the Infinity QX60, it looks like only support up to 64GB drive ( I have an old USB HD 120 GB formatted Fat32 and it won't read. I had to buy a 64GB Flash drive ), also if you leave the USB connected, it will start the "Reading" every time you start your car, doesn't matter if you were listening XM or Radio, anything...

And when finally it finish the "reading" (take around 2 to 3 minutes) it always start with the same MP3 file, it won't even "remember" the last music that was playing.

Is there any opensource community that is working with a firmware update for this? Or anybody know how to contact with Infiniti for some idea or try some beta...

I have a Ford Edge that use MS Sync, and it works great. It load any size of USB Drive, remember what was the last file playing and if I was on XM/Radio/CD or USB and it didn't take 2 to 3 minute to start playing. And a Honda Crosstour that work well too (however this one doesn't support Bluetooth streaming)

The car is great but the electronic could be a lot better.

BTW my QX60 is Hybrid, does anybody have a tip to improve the MPG? I tried to most conservative driving that I could and I only could get 20/24 MPG. They claim that it can do 26/28 MPG. I have the car for 3.5 months.

Thank you.

Yes, drive in ECO mode, turn off the climate system, and roll down the windows. You will achieve the EPA mpg ratings--No joke, that is how they achieved the window sticker rating, the Majority of the EPA test loops do not require the A/C to be on.

Otherwise, roll up the windows, turn on the climate system, be pampered, and be happy with the MPG you get.
rolling up windows does help with aerodynamics which in turn help with MPG's but that's if you really want to see how far you can go, sort of an extreme measure IMO.
As I said I did that MPG driving very conservative using ECO, on my regular driving I'm doing 18/20 MPG. I was pushing to see how they "cheat" to get the published MPG. This is my first hybrid and I was expecting an easier way to drive saving fuel.

Thanks
The secret is no a/c. If you can turn off the a/c and drive on a flat road at 55 mph, you can get 30 mpg in normal mode (I've done it). But, as noted, if you"just dive it and enjoy" it will be much less, but still good for a vehicle this size.

Consistently high mpgs are the world of vehicles like the Toyota highlander in this class (but they are much smaller) due to the superior hybrid system they employ.
and with no a/c measures should be taken to make the cabin cooler, like getting windows tinted.
I have a question about USB playback.

I do not have the theater package.

If it is just me and my girlfriend in the car and I am driving and she is in the passenger seat, can she view movies as I drive?

What I'm asking is, if i load up the USB stick when i'm parked and the movie starts to play on the navigation screen, as I start driving will it still play on the navigation screen, or will it stop showing and she wont' be able to view due to safety?

If the vehicle starts moving, the screen will blank out with a message, then go to Maps or Status. The only way around this is to "hack" the system buy buying a module or cutting/bypassing some of the speed sensing wires.
If you don't have the theater package, will the car play the video on the front screen when you're stopped? I wonder if Infiniti left the functionality to play movies in there, but you have no video head rests to play them on.
