Hi ,
Am the proud owner of a QX60 Hybrid. Love the vehicle, but one issue is really driving me crazy. When you need to accelerate and put the "Pedal to the metal" the vehicle consistently suffers almost an immediate power loss. Its like the old days when I was first learning how to drive a standard, and a dropped the clutch too quickly.

It makes you think the vehicle is going to stall.

I brought to my local dealers attention, and they were able to replicate on other Hybrids as well. Apparently its consistent across the whole product line. They checked with National and they confirmed its normal behaviour.

Its a little scary, as the vehicle literally hesitates - which when you're making a left turn, or going across oncoming traffic, makes you worry.... Certainly not something I've experienced driving other manufacturer's hybrids.

I made a youtube video so people could see for themselves:

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas or suggestions?

I agree with InfinitiFan. Get a second opinion from another dealership if possible and I'd also contact Infiniti Consumer Affairs to document the issue.

Before the sales manager at the dealership where I purchased the JX got fired, I asked him if he knew of issues with the hybrid. The only thing he told me was that Infiniti was aware of some performance issues with the hybrid, mostly fuel milage not meeting their advertised mpg ratings. He did say there have been several hybrid owners coming into the service department to deal with those issues. Since the car is under warranty, I'd really check into it and see if there is a fix. The dealership makes out on warranty issues anyway, so there is an incentive to make the customer happy.

As the OP stated, this is a known issue. Happens to me, too. The solution (if one can call it that) is to ease into acceleration. I never "stomp on it" but go about 2/3 down on the accelerator if I need to go, quickly. A performance vehicle this is not!

The real problem is what happens if you are going, say, 5-10 mph and then need a quick acceleration to avoid that speeding car blasting through the red light, or to complete a merge on a short on-ramp. That's where this can be dangerous and, once, I experienced a delay doing that and it was a bit scary.

Seems this could be fixed so we all need to write, not just call, Infiniti so there is a record of our complaints. That might get them to look at this more seriously.

Knowing it's there, however, has been enough for me to adjust my driving enough that I've not had this problem since that first time.

Here's what it should perform like.

QX60 Hybrid 0-60 video

In normal mode, notice how the engine RPM momentarily stops at 2500 RPM, and drops to 2000 RPM while the CVT torque converter locks up, then increases and levels off at 6000 RPM, all while the vehicle accelerates at a constant rate. (No hesitation)
