QX60 vs MDX vs RX350

ENGINE
QX60: 3.5L DOHC V6 265hp/248 lb-ft
MDX: 3.5L SOHC V6 290hp/267 lb-ft
RX 350: 3.5L DOHC V6 270hp/254 lb-ft

BASE WEIGHT
QX60: 4323 lbs
MDX: 4025 lbs
RX 350: 4178 lbs

The MDX runs away with the performance comparison, it’s the lightest of the three with the peppiest engine available. However MDX Curb weight increases significantly as options and packages are added on, for example an MDX with SH-AWD and Tech package will tip the scales at 4332 lbs. QX60 is the slow and steady of the bunch with the least powerful engine and bulky weight that jumps to 4462 lbs for QX60 AWD. Underpowered and oversized may be detrimental to fuel economy later on, something to consider.

GEARBOX
QX60: CVT
MDX: 6 Speed Automatic
RX 350: 6 Speed Automatic, optional 8 Speed

I've never been a big fan of CVTs and QX60 is no exception, its the one glaring option that could derail my decision. Lexus' optional 8 speed should make better mpg figures.

DRIVE
QX60: FWD, optional AWD, Limited slip differential
MDX: FWD, optional SH-AWD
RX 350: FWD, optional AWD

QX60 is the only one standard with a Limited Slip Diff, this gets transferred over from the Pathfinder. Other two need optional towing package to equip limited slip.

TOWING
QX60: FWD-3,500 lbs/AWD-5,000 lbs
MDX: 3,500 lbs (optional tow package 5,000lbs)
RX 350: 1,500 lbs (optional tow package 3,500 lbs)

QX60 is the king of towing, AWD can tow 5,000 lbs without the need for a tow package like the other two, Limited Slip Diff makes incline towing that much more comfortable. LSD is also useful in slippery or snowy road conditions.

FUEL ECONOMY
QX60:20 City/26 Highway
MDX: 20 City/28 Highway
RX 350: 18 City/25 Highway

QX60 holds its own in MPG comparison, desite its obvious heft over its two competitors. Limited slip diff and lower ratio towing gears account for the 2 mpg Highway difference between MDX and QX60. RX350 is plain disappointing as the optional 8 speed only bumps highway MPG to 26.

im surprised the Acura MDX can have such a high towing capacity since Acura has always been known to have lower powered vehicles, I expected the Lexus to have those numbers.
They all seem to be in the same ball park. The QX60 may have a bit less pick up and go than its rivals here though. It ends up having great towing capacity still. Its not like the QX60 is meant to be a driver's car. As long as it can tow your boat for a family getaway, it doesn't have to be able to drag race.
I've seen several comments over the past two years with people complaining about the JX and now QX being underpowered and not as sporty as other Infiniti models. It wasn't designed for that but sure makes a good touring vehicle that rides very nice. I really enjoy the way it handles and how it rides, especially on long trips. Plus, I enjoy decent gas milage.
Its the CVT that robs the QX60 of all driving pleasure. I view CVT transmissions like running through mud, every response is bogged down and delayed. Although the new chain driven CVT should boost towing up to 5K like the Pathfinder..
RX350 looses here. Worst mileage. Most gears for the transmission too!

And isn't it the smallest car yet its the heaviest?
With vehicles like these the cargo space is often important, so being the great forum user that I am, I went and found the specs on that.

Acura MDX has cargo space of:
15.847 cu ft (14.846 cu ft): Behind 3rd row
45.147 cu ft (38.446 cu ft): Behind 2nd row
90.947 cu ft (68.446 cu ft): Behind 1st row

Lexus RX 350 F Sport has cargo space of:
40.0 cu ft (1,132 L): Behind rear seats
80.3 cu ft (2,272 L): Maximum with seats down

Infiniti QX60 has cargo space of:
15.8 cu ft: Behind rear seats
76.4 cu ft: Maximum with seats down

So our friend the Infiniti QX60 loses this battle. It has the least cargo space by a long shot with the eats down, and by a half a cubic foot with the seats up. If its cargo space that you want its probably best to go with the Acura MDX.

I think the MDX and QX60 are great vehicles to compare, both car makers did an amazing job and there are some pros and cons to each. this autoguide review compares the two and does a good job of it:

interesting.. the QX looks the largest from the outside too.

I noticed that too. It's just in pictures of the QX60 by it's self. But if you look at side by side comparisons you'll notice how much smaller the QX60 looks. I bet in person it's eeven more noticeable
