I bought the new led light bulbs for the whole car. and replaced them already. But I cant replace license plates bulbs because I can remove the glass that is covering it. Please explain and maybe give some pics on how to remove that cover to replace the light bulb. Thanks.

You have to remove the black piece of plastic (the plastic cover) that is on the inside of the rear lift gate to replace them. It's the whole plastic cover that covers the whole thing inside, it takes a bit of force to pop it out and continue popping it out all the way around.

I forget if there were those plastic rivet type things to remove as well, I did this very shortly after purchasing but just look around the edge if there may be any. It took a little bit of looking, investigating and experimenting but eventually I figured it out, it's not bad at all to do. Good luck, they look great once done!
thanks you very much. It will take me some time. please also tell me how to replace the lights that are just above your feet. as I understand it is 5w5 so just pull them out. But for some reason it doesn't come out. thanks.
For the footwell lights, you can twist the holder that the bulb goes into from the backside and it comes out. This makes getting the bulb out and then in easier. Then simply twist it back into place until it locks in place.

Yeah, removing the interior plastic liner from the liftgate takes a bit of figuring out since it is large but once done, you'll be happy you replaced those license plate lights with LED.
So I just try to pop it out with a screw driver or I have to remove something first?
Got it!!! Now I am an expert. LoL. I have all LEDs.

I have been looking on eBay looking at results of qx60 searches and see LED interior and exterior lights everywhere.

I'm intrigued, but am a bit scared. This is the first car I've ever owned so I'm inexperienced and a bit leery. I read about the potential difficulty in replacing the license plate lights and also the lights above your feet that was described in this thread. How hard is it to replace the other lights? The interior lights in the roof of the car, the map lights between the two front seats?

Is it worth the effort and money? Does it allow you to see better? I'm guessing it is really cool looking, aesthetically. I'm scared to death that taking on this task with cause me to break something.
Thats what I though in the beginning as well. But having my gs350 with stock leds and qx60 without made me switch. It is a little harder to replace license plates but now I can replace all lights inside within 10 min. Where do you live? Brooklyn staten island?? I can meet you and show you.

Instead of lighting yellow-ish they light like daylight, and brighter than stock. It's not hard to do them, but I have been doing them in various vehicles i've owned over the years and am not afraid to 'get in there' and do this kind of thing. If you like taking a hands on approach to things, it's worth it to be different IMO. If doing things yourself isn't exactly your cup of tea, I'd not begin because doing some and not all wouldn't look good. The interior lights are easy as heck, the parking lights are easy but you have to take off that plastic piece that goes across the front of the car under the hood and the license plate lights are easy BUT you have to be willing to remove an interior trim piece and snap it back into place.

I posted detailed pics in a thread here showing which bulbs i bought, where I got them and how they look. here is the thread: http://www.infinitiqx60.org/forum/n...-forum/78778-led-bumper-pics-misc-pics-2.html

His profile says Manhattan. Too far and expensive a drive for me over the Verrazano and through the Battery Tunnel, lol.
Paradox you on the Island?

Im in Manhattan. I am in sales working in all 5 Boros so it allows me to get everywhere pretty often. I may be willing to meet you and take you up on your offer of sharing knowledge if you're serious about it. It's funny.... QX 60 owners here locally on this forum yet I've only seen 2 ever on the streets in the two weeks I've owned it here in Manhattan.

Also - here are the the LEDs I was thinking of purchasing

I don't have interest I don't think in installing DRLs as that type of project scares me and it is only just a leased vehicle.

Are the lights I linked above a good set? Any better recommendations?

Did you click the link I gave you above? I used only sylvania/osram led's, not Chinese made stuff.

If you read through the whole post you will see what I used for interior led lights and license plate lights. Just ignore the turn signal, drl and fog lamp info.

Thank you paradox. I didn't read all the way to the last page and did now and makes more sense. I'm going to look these up to see total cost and maybe do this here soon. I know what you mean by everything with the exception of "front parking lights". What do you mean by these? Regarding the map lights, you said they weren't brighter than stick, but were whiter, which is nice. Would you change anything about them to make them better or brighter?

Thanks for all your input!
Well, they are brighter, just not by leaps and hounds IMO. The ones for the second row are quite brighter, but to me, the front ones are a bit but no as much because of the way the bulb faces inside the housing once installed. The reason I pay the extra money for these bulbs is I have gone with cheap Chinese ones and eventually one of the LEDs or more will burn out and then you have 50%, 75% etc of the bulb lighting. With these, they are quality so you get consistent reliability. Plus, they really are not hard to replace so when your leave is up you take them out and out in the stock ones. Many cars use the sylvania bulb I liked to on amazon so you can use them again and again across various vehicles.

I showed a pic of the parking light, it's in the headlight housing below the turn signal.

Any pictures by any chance of how you pulled the back trim plastic from the inside of the liftgate HAXEP? I'm in the trunk on my qx60 right now but scared of breaking something...
From what I remember you pop out the I think 4 plastic round 'pop pins' and then you have to pull really hard on the whole black plastic trim piece covering the whole area. I mean you gotta pull hard to begin popping it out, but it all snaps back in once done. I didn't take pics while I did mine though, sorry.
Ok I just did mine. Took out the four plastic round things from the bottom of the trim, but not sure if that is absolutely necessary.

I just wedged my fingers in towards the bump in the plastic at the very top where there is the rear wiper motor, and pulled down/out. One by one the plastic pins (that are not visible from the outside) pop out - man I had to pull hard - at first I thought I broke something.

I did take pics of the dis-assembly. Will post pics up tonight! Waiting for them to back up to my google account from my phone :)

Now trying to figure out how to remove the **** plastic cover from behind the headlights :mad:
