NEED HELP w/ QX60 AWD packages and upgrades

7914 Views 9 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Paradox
Hi,

I am a first time Infiniti buyer and am posting to get feedback on the QX60 AWD as well as the various available packages and add-ons. In my research, it seems that the QX60 has the best 3-row seating for an SUV in this price range which is one of my primary goals along with safety.

Is there any reason I should not be considering the QX60 and be looking at any other 7-seater SUV?

The upgrades I am looking to get are: Driver Assistance Package (for the IBA, BSW, DCA and BCI features) and Premium Plus Package (since its required for Driver Assistance).

The Technology package or the Deluxe Touring package seemed like an overkill. Is there anything in particular in these packages that you have used and feel like it is a “must-have” feature?

What other upgrades would you recommend I think about getting factory installed?
- All season floor mats?
- Illuminated Kick Plates?
- Splash guards?
- Cargo Package?

Finally, any guidance on what I can do / get installed to protect the bumpers?

Any advice you can provide would be very helpful as I plan to pull the trigger this weekend.

Thanks and Happy Holidays.

Hi ullu and welcome to the QX60 forum!
Many of us here obviously purchased the QX60 for many of the same reasons you've mentioned above - luxury 3 row seating for 7, safety and one of my favorites - the around view/bird's eye camera view.

The options you've selected are the minimum I would get as these seem to bring the most value to the vehicle. The technology and deluxe touring are nice to haves, but it really is a personal oreference and what your budget is.
I actually got both of those packages because I love the technology and the larger wheels just fill up the wheel wells for a nicer appearance - that and I live in CA - no snow unless I go look for it.

Skip the cargo package - worthless.
The other upgrades - meh - mats you can order from 3rd party for much less, kick plates and splash guards are a personal preference - take a look at a QX60 with and without them.

Based on what you've described so far, believe you'd be very happy with a QX60.

Good luck and let us know what you get!

Cheers!

The only thing I can think of that might make you reconsider is the potential problems with the CVT transmission

Its not a must. It is basically a few more luxury features that are nice to have but not neccessary. The package does roll in the heated and cooled seats. Which are nice to have.

What other upgrades would you recommend I think about getting factory installed?
- All season floor mats? nah just get WeatherTech floor mats yourself
- Illuminated Kick Plates? looks cool but not needed. get it thrown in?
- Splash guards? nice to have. keeps the bumpers and sides clean
- Cargo Package? I do like the OEM cargo mat

Get the front and rear bumpers wrapped with paint protection film

dgandbver - thanks for confirming that the two packages are not utterly necessary. I am excited about the around view camera as well.

foreverJX - I have heard abut the CVT transmission problems but am lost as to the details. Is the issue one of (i) long term reliability, or (ii) not a real car like driving "feel" or (iii) extra noise from the engine? Think I have ready all these in some shape or form but not sure how bad they are and if they are CVT related.

Finally, for the bumper protection film - is this something that the dealer potentially throws in or is it an after market thing?
Buy as much car as you can afford. With plenty of original JX35s out there, you still might be able to pick up a fully loaded car with everything you want. Now that I've had this car for about a year and a half, I sure wouldn't trade it for one not fully loaded.

Don't forget to shop around for the warranty. We picked up a much better warranty and better price out-of-state. If you are concerned about the transmission, I'd go with the extended plan that goes as far as possible.

Is this the extended warranty over and above the manufacturer provided What does the extended warranty cover and how much do you think is appropriate to pay for it?

I was under the impression that extended warranty, like financing, is a lhigh-margin product for dealers and doesnt really add much for the buyer.
If you are leasing, don't even bother with extended warranty, and even maintenance if you will drive it under 30,000 miles. As for packages, search around for something that really fits your needs. The warnings in the drivers assistance package are really only warnings. Sometimes, depending on the deal you get, you can get these warranties and maintenance included in the deal, just go in at the end of the month and work them. All of this really just depends on what you need. Everyone's opinion may not be the same opinion that you have on something. If you're paying this much for a car, get something that you want.

My gripes so far:
No DRL
No Integrated Turn Signals on mirrors
Corolla offers LED front lights - QX60 does not
Performance can be a dog - It feels faster than a GX-470 but is really not.
Luxury Badging (or lack thereof)

Other than that, It has all the right qualifications and I pulled teh trigger last week. I am awaiting delivery tomorrow.
I will keep everyone posted.
Cheers.

Getting ready to pull the trigger myself. Premium/Premium Plus/Driver Assistance package. Roof rails/kick plates/bumper protect/splash guards/tow hitch. Anything else you can think of that is critical. Don't want the DVD theater. Don't see the value added for the price of the Touring or Tech.

Thinking about black and tan.
I bought a car 3 cars ago with radar cruise control and it has become a must for me honestly. It makes road trips much easier to drive quite frankly. My qx60 is the first to have full speed cruise though and it's amazing. Took a trip to Atlantic city in it shortly after purchasing. Traffic about stopped on the parkway at one point and crawled for a mile or so. The car slowed from 70mph down to maybe 5-10, creeped with traffic and then re accelerated to 70 once we passed the road crew. Sure I could do it and am on the ready to brake if I need to but it's just nice to set the cruise and have the car speed up and slow down, even if only a few mph because of people around me, automatically.
