Is "Miles Left" for fuel automatic?

My wife has a Dealer Loaner and it indicated that she had 17 miles left worth of fuel. She put about 3 gallons in and it still showed 17 miles left. She looked in the book and tried to do the resets, but only the trip reset. Is there any way to make it reflect the new number of miles since she added gas? I would think that this should be automatic, but since it did not change she wondered what she is missing here. OH, this is a 2013, so is not a QX60, but I hear it is the same...JX model should at least be the same regarding this issue.

It'll either do it after a few start ups or it'll take adding more gallons of fuel. More than she added last time that is; If it keeps at 17 adding just one gallon still wound't help it along. Usually more than 2-2.5 gallons is enough to make it recalculate in newer vehicles but I guess not in this case. I'm unaware of a way to 'force' it to do it by button presses.
