Bumper protection?

I just signed for my new QX60 yesterday and will pick it up later this week. I had a question regarding bumper protection.

I live in New York City and park on the street. It is unavoidable that other cars tap your bumpers as they try to squeeze their cars into tiny parallel parking spots on the street.

Are there any recommended bumper protectors out there for the qx60? I see some when I do searches for the fx35 but nothing for the JX or QX60.

Any recommendations? There were no options from the factory/dealer.

Thanks!

How much are you willing to spend? If a good amount I would consider getting push bars/bull bars. They look cool and will protect the front end a lot.
I don't know what "a lot" of money is.... I mean... I would be willing to spend maybe $500? I'm just leasing the car as of now though.

Do you have a link for your recommendations?
I live in downtown Chicago and my B5 Audi had horrible front and rear bumper rash. If you are in an urban environment I would Most Def try and to find something.

I see a ton of cars in the city with these: https://www.bumperguard.org/
There's those bumper buddy or bumper guard things. You keep it in the back and just flip it out when you park. Would probably fit in the storage area in the back. Another option is to put clear armor (clear bra) on the back and front bumpers. This is easier since you don't have to pull it out every time, and it protects pretty well.

If it fits on a new model Mallfinder, it should fit on the QX60 just fine. Under the skin, they are essentially the same vehicle. Only concern is will it interfere with parking sensors and/or forward camera.

Thanks for that! Is the clear bra difficult to install yourself? Or should you really have a professional do it?
I would have a pro install the film. I did it once on headlights, but that was a very small area and pre-cut film. And I still didn't get it perfect.
Yeah I'd recommend professional installation as well. It's not an easy task if you are not used to doing it.

What we talking here for bumpers on the front and back? $500 installed? $1000 installed? I'm leasing my vehicle. Can I put this bra on, even? (I've yet to pick it up, waiting for it to arrive)

Thank you for all your help!
There will not be a problem putting a clear bra on your leased vehicle. You can return it with the bra still on, or peel the bra off right before you turn it in. Not sure how much. I'd call a few shops and see what they quote you.
Please post a link for a clean bra? I am picking up QX60 on Tuesday. and would like to protect my bumpers too (Brooklyn, NY). thanks
Clear Bras IMO are more for the front and are for road chips from rocks and debris. I don't think a clear bra will really make a whole lot of difference when it comes to the morons in Brooklyn, Queens, well the whole city who cannot park without screwing up other peoples bumpers. I mean yes, it'll protect from scratches up to a point, but I've seen the damage done to many a bumper on the BQE from parallel parkers and for a lot of them, the bra would just tear or rip and still damage the plastic beneath IMO. If anyone on here who may live in Brooklyn etc who has experience please do chime in though.

Price vary's from place to place and how much you want done. Some do just the front bumper and a little bit up the hood. Some do more up the hood, front bumper and side view mirrors. I've heard prices around $400 up to $1200 depending on quality of the film, where installed and how much film is applied.

Those rubber bumper things that flip out of the trunk work for someone who hits the bumper flat head on but they are a pain and hideous when people leave them hanging out while driving around. Plus, they don't help for the corners where some idiots hit while parallel parking. I've seen ones that wrap around as well but you have to clip them into the wheel wells, which is more work when parking and again, leaving. I dunno, I live in the 'rural' borough and have a driveway/garage and there's parking on my block anyways, but if I lived where I had to parallel park I would just accept people are idiots and there isn't much you can do. Just me though, I do feel for you since I am a car person and love a clean car.

On another forum I thought I saw a picture of a bumper that had clear bra on it, got hit by a car and looked totally ugly. Peeled off clear bra and bumper looked nearly perfect. I'll try to find the picture. I was impressed.
But if someone hits it in a way to where it will tear the film, it'll still damage the bumper. It's a may work, may not work type of thing. It could be better than nothing to have, but there still is a good potential it'll fail in the parking environment we have around here, unfortunately. Bumpers here don't just get scratched, they get gouged out, deep. People suck...

Here are the pictures I was looking for. Posted by a user on the Q50 forum who applies film down in GA.

Obviously, YMMV, but I was impressed.
