2014 QX-60 Cruise Control Problems

When setting the cruise control at 25mph up to 55 the vehicle picks-up speed. Depending on the length of the hill the vehicle will pick-up speed from 10 to 20 plus mph. I tested the cruise going down a long 4% slope setting it at 55mph. The vehicle picked-up 10mph then applied the brakes dropping back 5mph. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership and all systems checked out. I also contacted Infiniti and explained my problem and they suggested I test drive one off the showroom floor. I did and the new one had the same problem. Is anyone experiencing this problem?

Haven't tried it on a hill yet - but the laser guided cruise works wonderfully for me on relatively level roads. Will let you know when I try it on any sort of grade.

One of the reasons I haven't really left the city yet with my new $60k SUV is because I'm waiting for the faulty passenger occupant sensor to be replaced for proper operation of the passenger airbag. (now a recall I believe). But its going in Monday to get fixed! so will try out after that.
Is your QX60 a hybrid or is it gas only? Also, do it have the laser distance control cruise or the normal cruise control? The laser cruise comes with the tech package which also includes lane assistance and collision intervention. It will apply the brakes if you get to close to a vehicle in front of you, or you drift out of the lane.

To my knowledge, cruise control alone will not apply the brakes to slow you down. It will use grade logic to engine brake, or in my case it will shut the engine off and use regen braking to both charge the battery and slow the vehicle until the battery is full, then it will engine brake. If I get to close to the vehicle in front of me, it will then brake to maintain a safe following distance.

What you describe sounds normal, assuming your vehicle is engine braking while coasting down hill. I'm not aware of the cruise control alone (without the driving nannies) actually applying the mechanical brakes.
Cruise Control

This gas only vehicle is loaded including the deluxe package. If the cruise is set at a speed below 60mph nothing happens when going down hill. No breaking or down shifting, it feels like your are freewheeling up to speeds of over 15mph above the setting of the cruise. The rpms remain at the set speed of the cruise.

My QX60 will engine or regen brake when picking up speed. I have only used the Cruise Control on the 405, or the 101 (freeways Los Angeles) when traffic is light, so the flow is 70 mph--otherwise it is stop and go. Most of the inclines around here are 6-7 degrees with elevation changes of 1000+ feet. My QX60 will regen or engine brake to slow the vehicle on the 6% grades, both using cruise or when not using cruise---but I have the hybrid so it is trying to capture the potential energy to improve mpg. That said, it will still pick up speed until HAL senses a car in my path and brakes for me.

I would expect your vehicle to engine brake once vehicle speed is >5 mph over the set speed to slow you down. Maybe the grade logic is only programmed to down shift on inclines > than 4 degrees, or maybe your incline sensor is out of spec? (Guessing)
