18" vs 20" wheels on QX60

Hi,

I am planning to buy a 2014 QX60 AWD and wondering if I should consider the 20" wheels. Can you please let me know the pros and cons of the larger wheels? Do they give better gas mileage? Or is it just the for the looks? And does the SUV get higher off the ground with the 20" wheels?

the 20s and 18s will be the same total diameter including tire. the difference is with a taller rim you get less sidewall. You want to know the biggest difference. Cost. Price out a replacement set of tires for QX60 using 18s and 20s, you'll see what I mean ;)

cost of tires for 18's and 20's will be different, 20's being more, but when you're spending money on them once every 4-5 years, it's not an issue. just get what ever you like

sure it is an issue. If I can save a 1000$ I'm going to save a $1000 regardless of the intervals...

IMO I rather spend more to get a quality setup that's more to my liking which will last me 4-5 years and more than to settle for something. Just really depends what you want. It will be different for everyone

What QxSixty said - it's personal preference.
If it matters the 18" will handle much better in snow, 20" not so much. No winter tires in 20" or very limited.

You going to drive in the snow? The tires that come stock on the 18's seem to me that they'd be much better in the snow.

when did 18s become not quality? In fact I'll argue you're paying more for a LESS functional tire and wheel setup. 20 inch winters dont exist, 20 inch rims ride rougher and as i said earlier price out a set of replacement tires for 18 inch rims and 20 inch rims ;)

only advantage of 20 inch rims is more road feel (also a disadvantage) and better looks (personal preference)

I have 20" rim and tires and love the look and drive. On my previous vehicle, I tried to save a few dollars and move to a smaller rim and tire package for winter and it was a terrible drive (gave a sway feel, less control on turns etc.). I purchased both 20" rims and tires for the winter and it has been great.

Worth the few hundred dollars more, in my opinion.

What winter tires are you running on the 20" rims? I thought I remembered looking last winter when the JX had first come out and didn't see any tires that fit.

Hi Sinecure,

I purchased Toyo Observe Snow tires. 235/55 R20. Feel good on the road and blasts through the snow. Handles very well.
