tow package or hitch

I would have liked to have the tow package on our QX60, but we received a good deal going for one on the lot. I had a U-Haul location say that they would have to cut into the bumper to install a tow hitch. I nixed that and was wondering if someone had any recommendations for a good tow hitch. I am only talking about a very small bass boat and a very short and light pontoon.
thanks

I have tons of clients that have this exact same question, as well as clients that have gotten the U-Haul hitch. I would suggest getting the Infiniti hitch simply because of looks and rigidity. I believe it will cost about $850 with install at a dealer, and it will have everything you need in the kit. It actually comes with the section that they have to cut out, so it will look stock and still be able to tow max capacity. Like I said, this is simply from my experience with personal clients on this topic. This may be a little bit overload for what you are looking to tow, but it will look and perform the best by far. Hope this helps!

I agree with wilbanks51. The Uhaul hitches are ugly and not very well integrated into the rear bumper.

It's worth a few extra bucks to get a good looking hitch and the associated wiring.

Get the Dealer installed hitch on your QX60. It is the exact same hitch and finish that you get from the factory. I had one installed on my QX 60 at the dealer for $800. I don't regret it for moment.

I own a hybrid and recently towed 4 x 8 U-Haul trailer from Los Angeles to Warner Robins Georgia with no issues whatsoever. The trailer and load weighed about 1600 pounds and I averaged about 17 miles to the gallon over 2300 miles trip going 70 miles an hour.

I found the hybrid QX60 to be an excellent trailer hauler, the CVT transmission was always in the perfect gear. I had no issues whatsoever climbing the grades in Arizona and New Mexico on I-40 and maintaining speed. The engine never turned more than 4000 RPM and only did so briefly. Most of time it was turning around 2200 rpm at 70.

Thanks for all of the good info. The salesman that sold me the QX60 said that I should go to a place that specializes in trailer hitch installs. That's the only reason that I didn't have it done there. I don't feel comfortable having a dealership try to install something that they don't feel good about. What to do? I do know that if I had ordered a QX60 with the hitch it is an additional $ 500.00. I don't know the difference between the 5 and $ 800.00 they charged you. I purchased the car from Bommarito in St.Louis, MO. I am not very happy with them because I called about pandora on my QX60 and he told me I didn't have the correct package for pandora on my car and also will not return my call.
If I could find a dealership that I was comfortable with to professionally install the hitch, I would do it. I was wondering if you could send me a picture of the hitch that you used to haul you trailer with.

thanks again.

The difference in price is the dealership labor to install the hitch, wiring harness and finisher. The hitch and parts only cost about $500. Keep in mind the service department at a dealership is completely different than their sales department -- they are literally under different management. Fortunately for you, there are two Infiniti dealerships in St Louis. If you don't like BOMMARITO INFINITI, have the hitch installed at PLAZA INFINITI. Call both service departments and have them quote you a price to have a hitch installed. Tell them what the other quotes and see if they will beat it. I had mine installed for $800. My dealership matched the lowest price quoted, and saved me a 30 minute drive. If they'd of said no, I would have driven the30 minutes.

You could also try a Nissan dealership. The hitch, wiring harness and finisher on the 2014-15 Pathfinder is identical to the QX60. See what they will install one for, then see if one of the two Infiniti dealerships will match it. If Bommarito or Plaza say no, have a Nissan dealer install it.

My 2 cents.

I had mine installed by the Infiniti dealer when I purchased my QX60. Looks exactly like factory install, so I would highly recommend doing it through the dealer.

Rooster,
Can you forward a picture of the hitch as it looks on your vehicle?

thanks

As mentioned above, I had Autonation Infiniti in Torrance, CA install the hitch, wiring harness and finisher pictured. My QX60 did not come with the factory hitch, but the end result is identical.
